Sound Healing

In sound healing we work on addressing the root cause of your illnesses, be it mental, emotional or spiritual. We are not just a physical body, in fact, we are energy beings first manifesting in a physical body here on earth. The energy field around us stores our emotions, thoughts, memories and life history. We can use sound to shift these energies, to address areas where we have more stagnancy and less flow of prana or life force energy. In a 1-2-1 sound healing session we work together to uncover these deeper rooted issues within our being that is causing disharmony within, so that we can heal and allow the body to return to its natural state of health and wellbeing.

THE BENEFITS OF SOUND HEALING

Sound healing has been around since ancient civilizations, across many cultures during human history. The Shamans of indigenous tribes used to drum and chant to heal their people, and the Aboriginal people of Australia used the digeridoo as a healing tool. Sanskrit mantras have been used for thousands of years to heighten consciousness and balance the energy centres within our being. The first person to study sound as a medicine was Pythagoras, circa 500 BC. He is often called “The Godfather of Modern Sound Medicine” and he would teach his students how to use sound and music to sooth the mind and our emotions, and to enhance our health and wellbeing. In the Egyptian and Babylonian cultures drums and rattles were used as sound medicine as well, and today we know that the low vibrations from the drum and the ultrasound from the rattles speed up the healing process.

The man that is most credited for discovering ultrasonography is the Italian biologist, Lazzaro Spallanzani (1729-1799). But it took until 1942 before ultrasonic waves used as a diagnostic tool by Neurologist Karl Dussik. Today ultrasound is a common non-invasive medical equipment that is used as a diagnostic tool, to see inside our bodies using sound waves.

French composer and bioenergeticist Fabien Maman found out through his experiments that when he sang musical scales into uterine cancer cells “the structure disorganized extremely quickly”. In his book The Role of Music in the Twenty-first Century “As soon as I introduced the third frequency [human voice] in the sequence, the cells began to destabilize.” Jeffrey Thompson, D.C., director for the Center for Neuroacoustic Research says that because our bodies consist of 70% water and because water carries sound waves 5 times more efficiently than air, it is highly efficient to use sound frequency stimulation for total body stimulation. It is shown that by using sound frequency vibration stimulation on living cellular tissue there is marked cellular metabolism and is therefore a possible mobilization of a cellular healing response.

The possibilities and potentials of sounds and vibration for healing are endless, and science is only just at the beginning of understanding what our ancestors knew about this. But we do know that sound can have major positive impact on our wellbeing. Since everything in this universe is vibrating at its own unique frequency, just as each and every one of the cells in our bodies are vibrating together to create its own unique melody, we know that we can stimulate every part of our being with the use of sound and music. Sound healing synchronizes brain waves to achieve profound states of relaxation, helping to restore the normal vibratory frequencies of the cells in our bodies.

During a sound healing session at Alchemic Health we first go through your current health situation to get an understanding of what is going on for you. During the actual sound session, I assess your chakras – your energy centres – to see where there might be any energetic imbalances. I will then balance them with sound, to set a good foundation for healing and transformation to take place. The whole session will be customised to you and your intention for this session, where different sound tools such as Tibetan bowls, Shamanic drum, tuning forks, rattles or Koshi chimes will be used in different intervals and combinations depending on your needs. We recommend in general at least 3-4 sessions per health concern, as it can take some time to get to the deeper levels of the root cause of the health condition to completely shift and transform.

Some of the potential benefits of sound healing are:

  • Lower stress levels
  • Lower blood pressure
  • Lower cholesterol
  • Improved sleep
  • Increased clarity of mind
  • Stronger heart connection
  • Increased sense of peace within
  • Heightened awareness
  • Fewer mood swings
  • Reduces pain in joints
  • Increases joint mobility
  • Overcoming sexual and menstrual dysfunctions
  • Improved immune system
